Kenya Missions 2009 Newsletter

In the beginning of 2008, post-election violence broke out in Kenya. Eldoret, the place where I interned in 2004 for 9 months, was one of the worst places hit and many people were displaced. As I heard about what was happening there, Kenya became a burden on my heart once again and I felt that this was the right time to bring a team to Kenya. From July 1-28, we will be setting up medical clinics on the outskirts of Eldoret and working with the local church. During my internship, the kids and teens of RCAC raised money to help build a local church. It was my dream that one day, some of them would be able to personally see what they had helped build. Praise be to God that one member of our team was a teenager who had helped fundraise for this church. In total we have 6 members from our church and one other from another church going on this trip. Below are a few thoughts from the team members.
---------------------------------------------------------

Because of God's grace, I've been able to realize my aspiration of practicing medicine. To have the chance to journey with people and speak into their lives, often during times of trials and immense vulnerability, has been a tremendous privilege. As His child, God has showered me with more blessings than I could ever have imagined. I can never repay Him for everything He has given me but my hope is to be able to offer Him my life to be used for His kingdom work. I look forward to participating in His work in Kenya.
----------------------------------------------------------
For many years, I have felt a conviction to use my vocation as a nurse to do God's work in the global mission field. As much as I love my current job; I felt that God blessed me with this vocation because there was more that He wanted from me. In the past, I have let opportunities slip by but when I was approached with this medical trip to Kenya, I knew I had to respond with "Lord, Send Me." Please keep our team in your prayers as we try to be His Light in Eldoret and surrounding villages in Kenya.

A trip to Africa is not something that I've ever imagined doing. I considered letting it go because I felt that I couldn't be of use in Kenya and that my abilities were limited. But God has been gracious, giving me nothing but encouragements. He's shown me that as long as I have the heart to do his work, he'll lead me. So here I am; God has given me an opportunity, not only to serve, but to deepen my relationship with him. I may be scared to step into the unknown, but God is calling, so I'm whole-heartedly giving him my all to follow him.
----------------------------------------------------------
Two years ago, the thought of going on a missions trip never crossed my mind. It was always for somebody else. Then the thought of going didn't seem so impossible. The idea of being part of a mission slowly became more of a reality. Was God really calling me? Or was this all about me? But the feeling of going never went away. Then true to my form and my pattern, I said "No, it can't be, I can't go, no thanks God!" But that feeling never went away. So finally after two years of praying, I decided to obey. "Okay, I'll go. But not to Africa; okay, God?" But then He opened all the windows and doors towards going to Africa. "What?! No; it can't be; I can't do it; no thanks!" But the more I looked into the opportunity, the more I realized how filled with hope Kenya is, and how warm and receptive the Eldoret community is. "Okay God, I'll go." So I hope that you can support us through prayer and to be part of my journey of hope and faith.

I am a church baby and I sometimes want to contrast a life with and without God. During a low point in my walk with God, I discovered that significance of a strong relationship with God as I journeyed through life without meaning and direction. Now having this experience and god as my centre point, I want others to discover the saving grace and fulfilling journey that God takes us on when we dedicate our lives to him. Through this Kenya trip, I believe many seeds of God will be planted in the hearts of the people as our teams strive to glorify and praise Him through our work there.

We would love for you to be a part of our journey. Our team will be fundraising $17,000 for this trip. We would appreciate your prayers as we prepare and plan as well as when we are there. If you are able to support us financially, you can make a cheque payable to Richmond Chinese Alliance Church with Kenya Mission Trip in the memo. We thank you for supporting and partnering with us.
